About MVA
Focused on machine vision that matters.
MVA is a non-profit organization that promotes machine vision research through an international conference series shaped by researchers from academia and industry.
The MVA Organization is a professional society of researchers in Machine Vision and Applications, with roots in Japanese academia and industry and an international conference community.
Its goal is to advance the field by sponsoring a forum where new ideas, technical progress, and practical applications can be discussed intensively and openly.
From workshop to international conference.
The series has evolved along with the field. What began as a focused IAPR workshop grew in scale and quality, adopted the MVA name, and became the IAPR Conference on Machine Vision Applications in 2005. The conference is now organized under the IEICE-ISS Technical Committee on Pattern Recognition and Media Understanding (PRMU), with continued endorsement from IAPR.
-
The series begins as the IAPR Workshop on Computer Vision in Tokyo.
-
The meeting adopts the name IAPR Workshop on Machine Vision Applications.
-
Growing participation and research quality lead to conference status.
-
Proceedings begin to be archived in IEEE Xplore.
-
IEICE-ISS becomes the organizer of the conference.
-
The 20th edition brings the international community to Fukuoka.
Professor Mikio Takagi’s legacy
The series was led for many years by the late Professor Mikio Takagi, whose work across the University of Tokyo, Tokyo University of Science, and Shibaura Institute of Technology helped establish its distinctive community. Following his sudden passing, the MVA Organization was established to carry this activity forward with a durable organizational structure.
