Abstract

Proceedings for the workshop are produced by photo-offset printing directly from manuscripts furnished by authors. This document provides a guide of manuscript to be published in the proceedings of IAPR Workshop MVA'96 using LaTeX typesetting system[1]. To ensure a uniform appearance in the proceedings, authors are requested to conform to the directions to be explained. The submitted manuscript will appear in the proceedings in the same size and style.

General Instructions

All manuscripts must be written in English. Manuscripts must be typed on clear A4-size papers--210 by 297 mm. Use one side only. Print single-spaced text in two columns on each page. Fill each column from the top of the page except for the first page. A manuscript consists of the following items.

Title
The main title should be centered over both columns. Capitalize the first letters of the first and last words and all other words except articles, prepositions and coordinating conjunctions. Long title may be typed in two lines.
Author Information
Skip a line from the main title, and then enter the full names of authors, followed by their affiliations. Addresses and E-mail addresses help to contact authors.
Abstract
The abstract should be placed at the beginning of the first column on the first page with the section title Abstract centered. The abstract should be no longer than 200 words.
Section Headings and Text
Text follows just after the abstract. The section and subsection headings should be emphasized adequately by using bold fonts or capitalizing initial letters.
Acknowledgments
The acknowledgment section may follow the main body.
Appendices
Appendices may follow the main body or the acknowledgment if exists. Index appendices by letters or numbers in sequence, and provide informative titles.
References
List and number all bibliographical references at the end of the paper.

Page Limits and Color Pages

Manuscript should not exceed four pages. Additional pages up to two will be allowed only if the manuscript is accompanied by a bank check or a copy of a certificate of money transfer for 10,000 yen for each extra page. We do not accept personal checks. If your paper includes color pages, we will charge 100,000 yen per each color page, and this cost will include 30 copies of your paper.

Mailing the Manuscript

Your manuscript must be received by 15 September, 1996. The deadline is extremely tight. Use air mail from overseas. Be careful not to fold the manuscript, and protect it by a thick cardboard. Send the manuscript with other required items to
